Seahawks Split Doubleheader in their First United East Action of the Year

St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team (5-3) hosted Penn State Berks in a double header for their first United East Conference action of the season. The Seahawks defeated the Nittany Lions in game one 6-5, but came up short in game two, 10-8. Game one went seven innings.

How It Happened (Game One)

  • The Nittany Lions and Seahawks were knotted up at two after three innings of play. Cole Tarleton was able to collect an RBI triple to give St. Mary's their first run of the game. Tarleton was able to score the second run of the game off a wild pitch later in the inning. 

  • A big fifth inning gave the Seahawks a three point advantage going into the final stretch of the game. Ian Adams was credited with an RBI after grounding out for the first run of the inning. Nate Brown drove a ball to right field to bring home the second run of the inning. Moments later, Ian Walters hit an RBI double to make the Seahawk lead 5-2. 

  • The Nittany Lions scored three unanswered runs to tie the game at five before Ian Adams connected on a sacrifice fly ball to bring home a runner to make it 6-5. Adams's sacrifice fly ended up being the winning run for the Seahawks. 

Inside the Box Score

  • Ian Adams finished with a hit and two RBI's, including the winning one. .

  • Nate Brown finished with a hit, an RBI, and a stolen base. .

  • Tyson Johnson started on the mound for the Seahawks, facing 32 batters and striking out five. Nick Testoni earned the save, striking out one of the five batters he faced.

How It Happened (Game Two)

  • The Seahawks and Nittany Lions went scoreless for the first four innings of  game two.  

  • Penn State Berks scored the first six runs of the game before the Seahawks could get on the board. Myles Pittman ended the scoring drought with an RBI single. St. Mary's trailed 6-1 after six innings.

  • The Nittany Lions added four more runs to take a 10-2 lead going into the bottom of the eight inning. The Seahawks began to mount a ferocious comeback from that point on. Ian Walters got things going in the eight with an RBI double. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Cole Tarleton doubled to right center and brought home a runner. Moments later, Ian Walters hit a single down the line to cut the deficit to four. Adrian Auber connected on the biggest play of the game for the Seahawks, bringing home two more runners off of an RBI double to make it a two-score game. Unfortunately, the comeback stopped there and the Seahawks fell 10-8.  

Inside the Box Score

  • .Ian Adams had a game high three hits, while chipping in an RBI. Ian Walters produced two hits and two RBI's 

  • Jake Wills started on the mound, facing 28 batters and striking out five. Nolan Sawatasky and Jace Jett both came in relief for the Seahawks.
