MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Time ran out for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks (8-2, 1-1 UEC) dropped their first United East Conference game of the season.
Zach Nestor notched the eventual game-winning goal with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to lift SUNY Morrisville (7-2, 3-0 UEC) to a 14-13 come-from-behind win over St. Mary's College.
How It Happened
- The Mustangs struck first but senior attackmen Jude Brown (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) and Abe Hubbard (Owings, Md./Northern) scored back-to-back goals to give St. Mary's its first lead of the game, 2-1, at 10:25. The two sides headed into the second quarter in a 2-2 draw with a man-up goal from Luke Strong eight minutes later.
- Morrisville opened the second frame with two goals in a one-minute span, including one from goalie Dylan LaPlace, before the Seahawks rattled off six straight to boast an 8-4 advantage with 2:33 remaining in the half. Brown contributed two goals and an assist in the 6-0 run. St. Mary's took an 8-5 lead into halftime following a goal by Roman Reiss with 1:16 left.
- Reiss picked up right where he had left off at the end of the first half, tacking on two more goals at the start of the third to bring the Mustangs within 8-7 with less than 13 minutes to go. St. Mary's tallied two of the next three goals to establish a two-goal margin.
- Morrisville used a 4-0 run, including the first two goals of the fourth period, to reclaim a lead (12-10) for the first time since leading 4-3 with 9:17 left in the second quarter.
- The two teams alternated the last five goals of the game with the Seahawks edging the hosts, 3-2, in the final eight minutes. St. Mary's pulled within one with each of its three goals, including Hubbard's man-up goal five seconds after Nestor's eventual game-winner.

- Reiss scored five goals to lead the Mustangs to a 3-0 record in conference play.
