Reading, PA-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (8-6) traveled to Reading, Pennsylvania (Jan. 20) for their first game of a back to back against the Penn State Berks Nittany Lions (1-12)
How It Happened

The Seahawks and Nittany Lions played a fast paced, back and forth first quarter that saw Penn State Berks leading, 21-18. The Seahawks trailed by as much as nine in the first period. A couple of Sam Blaylock three pointers and a Melanie Aquilar Layup in the final minute recaptured the momentum for St. Mary's and got them within striking distance going into the second quarter of play

St. Mary's regained control of the game after an 11-0 run that spanned four minutes. Sam Blaylock continued to be a factor from behind the arc, routinely hitting big shots at an incredibly efficient clip. Tray Mobray added a couple of nice buckets and Rachel Manning was able to convert defense into offense for the Seahawks. St. Mary's was able to go into the halftime break with a seven point lead.

Out of the halftime locker room, the Seahawks were able to put together a defensive clinic, only allowing the Nittany Lions to score eight points. Tray Mobray got the Seahawks going offensively, scoring the first two baskets of the new half. Stephanie Howell began to get in on the action as well, converting on free throws and making the most of her opportunities in the paint. Howell also made her presence felt on the boards, finishing with a team high 16. St. Mary's led 57-40 after three periods.

The defensive pressure carried into the fourth quarter, as the Seahawks only allowed Penn State Berks to tally seven points in the final 10 minutes. St Mary's saw offensive contributions from a variety of different players including: Skylar Kaplan, Charlotte Donnellan, and Josie Shermeyer. The Seahawks held on to win, 73-47.Â
