OWINGS MILLS, Md. – First-year forward
Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) registered his first career points Wednesday evening (Oct. 4) in helping the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team get back in the win column. St. Mary's College (5-3-2) tallied its second shutout of the season with a 3-0 non-conference road triumph over Stevenson University (1-6-4).
How It Happened
- Both goalies were tested often in the first half as senior Matthew Kopsidas (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) made five saves while Nolen Olson-Warwick came up with six to maintain the scoreless draw.
- The Seahawks finally slipped one past Olson-Warwick in the 39th minute when Reyes settled a loose ball at the top of box and sent in a right-footed shot top shelf for his first career goal.
- St. Mary's went into the break with a 2-0 lead when Reyes headed down junior midfielder Kolton Blackistone's (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) free kick to junior forward Abdoul Anounkou's (Toga/Springbrook [Md.]) feet, who slipped it to sophomore midfielder Ned Schauermann (Edgewater, Md./South River) for the finish at 40:59.
- Junior forward Elliot Hodges (Rockville, Md./Avalon) found the back of the net in the 76th minute with his team-leading sixth goal of the season to triple the Seahawks' lead. Hodges beat three Mustang defenders before firing it past Olson-Warwick from the top of the box.
