Blaylock and Mobray Have Big Nights as Women's Basketball Falls to Russell Sage

West Harford, CT-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (2-2) competed in the opening round of the USJ Tip-Off Tournament, taking on Russell Sage College (1-1). The Seahawks fell in the contest 62-43.

How It Happened

  •  Following a made Tray Mobray layup to kick off the game, the Gators went on a 12-0 run that spanned half of the first quarter. Russell Sage led 20-9 after the first 10 minutes. Tray Mobray and Sam Blaylock were the only two Seahawk scorers in the quarter.

  • Russell Sage cooled off from the field in the second quarter as both teams struggled to get much going offensively. Sam Blaylock and Tray Mobray continued to be the only St. Mary's players to find the bottom of the net. That duo combined for all 17 of the Seahawks' first half points. Russell Sage led by 13 at the half.

  • The third quarter was the Sam Blaylock show for St. Mary's. Blaylock put up 10 points in the quarter and did so from all over the court. Despite being most known for her three point shooting ability, Blaylock made the Gators pay from the mid range and the paint during her scoring outburst. Tray Mobray continued her solid night while Stephanie Howell and Olivia Liszt contributed their first points of the contest. The Seahawks still trailed 48-33 going into the final quarter.

  • Olivia Liszt connected on a long ball at the beginning of the quarter to give St. Mary's a momentum boost. The Seahawks were able to trim the Russell Sage lead back to within striking distance halfway through the fourth quarter thanks to a great effort from Tray Mobray. Mobray had six points in the quarter, doing most of her damage at the rim. Despite a valiant effort, the Gators would close the game on a 6-0 run and take the contest 62-43.

Inside the Box Score

  • Tray Mobray and Sam Blaylock contributed 36 of the Seahawks' 43 points in the contest. Mobray went for 16 while Blaylock dropped 20. Both Mobray and Blaylock connected on over 50% of their shots.
