ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Five Seahawks scored in double digits as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team returned to the win column Friday afternoon (Dec. 29). St. Mary's College (6-6) posted a convincing 77-56 non-conference victory over Fitchburg State University (2-9) on the first day of the Seahawk Holiday Classic.
How It Happened
- The Seahawks rolled out to a 16-1 advantage in the first eight minutes of the game and never looked back. Sophomore guard Micah Henry (Laurel, Md./Hammond) led the team in the run with seven points.
- Joshua Jean Charles halted Fitchburg State's field goal drought with a fastbreak layup at 11:50 to make it 16-3.
- St. Mary's headed into the break with a 34-22 advantage as the Seahawks went 17-of-25 at the free throw line in the first 20 minutes.
- The Falcons found their rhythm at the start of the second half, using a 10-7 run to close the gap to 41-32 within the first five minutes. Frederick Siayor notched half of his team's points in the run.
- Fitchburg would get no closer as St. Mary's grew the margin to 20-plus with a 25-13 response to stake a 66-45 advantage at 5:17 on a three-pointer by senior captain Hollique Johnson (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill).

- Fifth-year captain Daryn Alexander (Twinbrook, Md./Richard Montgomery) and first-year guard James Lerner (Herndon, Va./Maret) chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Lerner picked up a season-best three steals.

- Kamau Franks paced his squad with nine points while Javon Taylor contributed eight points and five rebounds in the Falcons' fourth straight loss.
