St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (6-3) hosted the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins (3-6) for a weekend non-conference match-up. The Seahawks took care of business, coming out with a 63-49 victory.Â

The Marlins led by eight after the first quarter of play. The Seahawks struggled to get much going offensively, shooting just over 30% from the field and 0-7 from behind the three point line. Tray Mobray scored the first two baskets of the game while Amira Whitaker and Melanie Aguilar both contributed two points in the quarter as well.Â

The Seahawks slowly chipped away at the Virginia Wesleyan lead and trailed by just four going into the halftime locker room. Amira Whitaker and Sam Blaylock both hit on three point shots in the quarter. Whitaker had a team high seven points in the first half. The Marlins led 26-22 to end the first half.

The third quarter was more of the same for St. Mary's. The Seahawks kept the game within striking distance, but could never entirely capture the momentum. Stephanie Howell began to get going offensively and contributed six points in the quarter.

St. Mary's scored the first six points of the final quarter and took their first lead of the game following an Olivia Liszt layup. The deciding point in the game came at the 6:57 mark, which was the start of a 17-2 run for the Seahawks. Over that run, the Seahawks had six different point scorers and forced the Marlins into six turnovers. St. Mary's scored 29 points, went 58% from the field, and converted two three pointers in the fourth quarter on their way to a 63-49 victory.Â
