Women's Basketball Fills the Stat Sheet in Senior Day Victory

St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (17-7) concluded their regular season with a home United East Conference Contest against Wells College (0-24). The Seahawks jumped on the Express and never looked back, cruising to a 110-46 senior day victory.   

How It Happened

  • St. Mary's kicked things off with an 11-0 run fueled by Karon Williams, Sam Blaylock, and Stephanie Howell. Howell was able to do damage in the post, while Sam Blaylock showed off her range by connecting on a three pointer, as well as a mid range jumper. The Seahawks closed out the opening 10 minutes with a 25-14 lead that featured five different point scorers. 

  • St. Mary's carried their dominance into the second quarter and continued to have a very balanced offensive attack. The Seahawks were at their best when they were running the court and making the extra pass. St. Mary's got even more players involved in the second period with six different point scorers. Tray Mobray showed off her finishing ability at the basket, while Kristin Sabatini connected on a couple of jump shots to end the half. The Seahawks led, 56-26.

  • The third quarter began with back to back three pointers from Rachel Manning and Sam Blaylock, showing that the St. Mary's squad was poised to pick up where they left off. Karon Williams continued to be a playmaker for the Seahawks and made her presence felt on both ends of the court. The Seahawks led 78-33 before the final stretch of the game. 

  • The fourth quarter was very much the Seahawks putting the finishing touches on a great team win. Skylar Kaplan was able to get involved, finishing a layup in transition. Melanie Aguilar also had a very active quarter by turning defense into offense and played great in transition. Sam Blaylock once again connected from deep on the final seconds to put an emphasis on a 110-46 win for the Seahawks.  

Inside the Box Score

  • Karon Williams nearly had a triple double with 23 points 11 assists and 9 rebounds. 

  • Sam Blaylock had the long ball going, converting on seven three pointers on her way to 29 points

  • Stephanie Howell earned a double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds 

  • Tray Mobray had a fantastic game, netting 16 points and picking up six rebounds.
