ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team picked up their sixth loss in a row Friday night (Feb. 3). St. Mary's College (8-12, 3-8 United East) dropped a 70-44 decision to Penn State Abington (15-6, 9-3 United East) in United East Conference action.
With the win, Abington sweeps the season series with the Seahawks as the Nittany Lions posted a 71-62 victory on their home turf on December 3.
How It Happened
- St. Mary's had a solid start to the game, claiming the first lead of the game and building an eight-point lead, 14-6, within the first seven minutes of the game. Senior guard Daryn Alexander (Twinbrook, Md./Richard Montgomery) and junior forward Hollique Johnson (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) each notched five points in the run to put the Seahawks in front.
- Brian Randolph III's second three-pointer of the night ignited a 19-2 run which handed Abington its first lead of the game, 25-16, with under 10 minutes left in the half.
- Johnson put an end to a seven-minute scoreless drought with a two-point jump shot at the five-minute mark, but the Nittany Lions closed out the half on a 14-3 run to take a 39-21 lead into halftime.
- Abington continued its offensive stride in the second stanza, growing its lead to as many 31 (68-37) with three minutes remaining in the game.
Inside the Box Score
- It was a rare blip in the box score for the Seahawks as St. Mary's was outrebounded for just the third time this season. The Nittany Lions picked up a 39-30 rebounding margin behind Randolph's game-best 13 rebounds.
- St. Mary's took care of the ball tonight with just a season-low 10 turnovers.

- Alexander and first-year guard Micah Henry (Laurel, Md./Hammond) each tallied eight points to lead the Seahawks on the night. Alexander also contributed six assists.
- Sophomore forward Naz Fisher (Washington, D.C./Washington Latin) grabbed a season- and team-best nine rebounds while adding seven points and three blocks.
Penn State Abington Game Notes
- Alex Salata finished the night with a game-best 21 points to lead the Nittany Lions in their second straight win.
- Abington shot 46.9-percent (23-49) from the field, including 46.2-percent (12-26) from downtown.
