Eleven Seahawks Score as St. Mary’s College Women’s Lacrosse Dominate Conference Opener

LANCASTER, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team, the defending United East Conference champions, opened defense of their league title Saturday afternoon on the road. Eleven Seahawks found the back of the net as St. Mary's College (5-5, 1-0 UEC) posted a commanding 25-3 victory over the Lancaster Bible College Chargers (2-7, 0-1 UEC).
 
How It Happened
  • The Seahawks powered past Lancaster Bible from the opening whistle, rolling to a 17-0 halftime advantage.
  • Kym Kouterick finally put the Chargers on the scoreboard 30 seconds into the third quarter as Kouterick finished off a pass from Lindsey Weaver.
  • St. Mary's ended the third on a 5-0 run led by junior captain MC Mortimer's (Baltimore, Md./Friends) two scores to take a 21-goal lead into the final frame.
  • The Seahawks edged LBC, 3-2, over the final 15 minutes to lock up their first conference win of the season.

  • The St. Mary's defense held the Chargers to just 10 shots while the Seahawks took 43.
  • The visitors won the ground ball battle as well, 15-5, as junior attacker Bella Dunigan (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) scooped up a career- and game-best four loose balls.
  • Draw controls finished in favor of St. Mary's as well with a 17-12 margin as sophomore midfielder Colin Horton (University Park, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and first-year attacker Katelin Scala (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) each won four draws. This was a career-best for K. Scala.
 
St. Mary's College Game Notes
  • Five Seahawks collected hat tricks this afternoon. Sophomore attacker Hailey Betch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) led all scorers with four goals while adding a season-best three assists.
  • Along with her four draw controls, K. Scala also contributed a career-high six points on career-bests of three goals and three assists.
  • Junior midfielder Elodie Scala (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) also put up career-best numbers with two goals and three assists.
  • Horton, Mortimer, and senior captain Lily Davison (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) all chipped in three goals and one assist. It was a career-tying effort in goals for Mortimer.
  • First-year midfielder Bridgette Carven (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) and junior defender Rachael Freeman (Baltimore, Md./Friends) both tallied their first career goals.
  • Junior goalie Maddie Clemmer (Middletown, Md./Middletown) needed just seven saves for her fifth win of the season.
 
Lancaster Bible Game Notes
  • Kouterick finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Chargers while Kyleigh Zenewicz turned away eight shots in LBC's fifth straight loss.
