Hershey, PA. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Tennis team traveled to Hershey, Pennsylvania to take on Penn State Harrisburg in the United East Conference Championship at the Hershey Racquet Club. The Seahawks defeated the Nittany Lions 5 - 3 to become the United East Conference Champions for the second year in a row.
How It Happened:
Doubles

The Seahawks won two out of three doubles matches.

Diana Levit and Hannah Gorel battled hard in the number one doubles spot. However, they fell short 8-6 to the Nittany Lions, losing the first doubles match.

Amber Manspeaker and Sydney Anderson dominated the number two singles spot. The pair took down their opponents 8-0.

Giselle Harris and Ellie Walter were determined to take the number three doubles spot. They took their opponent to a tie-breaking match, which they won 7-4. This made their overall winning score 8-7.
Singles

The Seahawks won three singles matches that were able to be played entirely through. They fell short in two singles matches. One match was left unfinished due to the final clinching point in the number five singles spot.

Diana Levit fell to her Nittany Lion opponent in two sets in the number one singles spot. In match one Levit lost 7-6 and in match two 6-3.

Hannah Gorel and her opponent, Brenna DeSantis, were clearly equally matched as they took the number two singles match to three sets. Gorel won the first match 6-2. However, DeSantis came back strong and won set two 6-4 and set three 6-3, taking down Gorel.

Amber Manspeaker took down her opponent in the number three singles spot in two sets: 6-4, 7-5.

Sydney Anderson fought hard in the number four singles spot against Gabrielle Sabatose of Penn State Harrisburg. Sydney won the first set 7-6 but fell short 6-2 in the second set. Sydney locked in the point with a win in the third and final set 6-2.

Giselle Harris clinched the win for the Seahawks by taking down her opponent in the number five singles spot. Harris won in two sets: 6-3 and 6-1. This win was the fifth and final point needed for the Seahawk's conference championship title.

The number six singles spot went unfinished.
Up Next for the Seahawks
The Seahawks automatically qualify for the NCAA tournament. The opponent, time, and location will be announced via a selection show on the NCAA website on Monday, May 1st at 12:30 PM. The first round of the NCAA tournament will take place next weekend, May 5th and 6th.
