St. Mary's City, MD- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Volleyball team (2-7) hosted the Green Terror of McDaniel College (6-1) at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics and Recreation Center Arena on campus. The Seahawks fought a hard battle but fell to the Green Terror in four sets: 3 - 1.

How it Happened

• The Seahawks started the first set out strong, keeping the lead throughout the 15th point. However, the Green Terror capitalized on the three attacking errors by the Seahawks to close out the first set 25-19. 

• The Seahawks came out strong in the second set with two kills by Grace Caudell (Hagerstown, MD). Again, the Seahawks immediately took the lead until the 12th point. Coach Alexis Calloway called a timeout as the Green Terror began to sneak away with the score of 15-12. This seemed to light a spark within the Seahawks as they began to close the gap, however the Green Terror fought through the end to come up with a 28-26 win. 

• McDaniel scored the first point of the third set, but it was quickly answered by St. Mary's. The third set stayed within a point up until the 11th point. At this point, the Seahawks went on a six point run creating a score of 17-11. This included a kill and two aces by Arielle Lubeck (Virginia Beach, VA). This run was exactly what the Seahawks needed in order to secure their first set win of the match (25-21). The win the third set was wrapped up with a service ace from Mia Hayes (Williamsburg, VA). 

• Grace Caudell starts the fourth and final set out with a kill against the Green Terror. The Seahawks initially created a 9-4 score but the Green Terror didn't let up. The set was tied up at 12-12 before the Green Terror went on a six point run that the Seahawks did not recover from. The Seahawks fell in the fourth and final set 25-22.

• Arielle Lubeck led the Seahawks in kills with 10. Meghan Stevens (Westminster, MD) was close behind her with seven.

• Meghan Stevens contributed 16 out of 74 digs for the Seahawks. Arielle Lubeck had 12 and Jillian Zukley (Severna Park, MD) 13. 

• Lauren Panageotou (Baltimore, MD) notched a career high of 26 assists against the Green Terror.

The St. Mary's Volleyball is back in action on their home court tomorrow Wednesday, September 13th at 5:00 PM. The Seahawks will face the alma mater of head coach Alexis Calloway, the Wildcats of Randolph College, in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics and Recreation Center Arena.
