Chestertown, MD - The St. Mary's Volleyball team hit the road today, September 16th to Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. They faced the Shorewoman of Washington College and the Gators of Notre Dame of Maryland. St. Mary's split their Saturday losing one match and winning the other. The Seahawks fell to the Shorewomen 3 - 0. They immediately bounced back against Notre Dame and won their second match 3-2.

How it Happened

  • The Seahawk's first match was against the Shorewomen of Washington College. While the Seahawks out-blocked the Shorewomen 5-4. However, Washington College dominated in kills (45 - 22) and digs (49-44). Despite these efforts, the Shorewomen downed the Seahawks 3 - 0. The first set score was 25 - 16, the second set score was 25 - 21, and the final set score was 25 - 18. 

  • The Seahawks faced the Gators of Notre Dame in their second match of the day. Despite how the day started, the Seahawks came out strong against the Gators, winning the first set 25 - 15. The Gators were not phased by the early efforts of the Seahawks and responded by taking the second set 26 - 24 and the third 25-17. The Seahawks were not going down without a fight. They took the fourth set 25-21 and were determined to go home with a win. The fifth and final set was won by the Seahawks 17-15. St. Mary's had 197 total attacks compared to Notre Dame's 183. While Notre Dame had 52 kills compared to St. Mary's 47, they also had 36 attacking errors while the Seahawks only had 32.

Key Plays

  • Meghan Stevens (Westminster, MD) led the Seahawks in kills with 5. Lauren Panageotou (Baltimore, MD) had 11 assists throughout the match against Washington College. 

  •  Meghan Stevens led the Seahawks in kills against Notre Dame with 22. This put her at 27 total kills for the day. Lauren Panageotou had 28 assists in the second match, totaling 38 for the day. Camilla Galeano (Germantown, MD) notched 19 digs against the Gators while Meghan Stevens trailed right behind with 18.
