St. Mary's Volleyball Starts Raleigh Invitational Off Short

Raleigh, NC - The St. Mary's Volleyball team hit the road to Raleigh, North Carolina for the Raleigh Invitational. The Raleigh Invitational features Central College, Meredith College, Virginia Wesleyan University, and Bridgewater College. The Seahawks took on the Dutch of Central College and the Angels of Meredith College. The Seahawks fell in both matches 3-0

How it Happened

  • The Seahawk's first match was against the Dutch of Central College. The Seahawks initially kept tight with the Dutch until the sixth point. The Dutch went on a five point streak which the Seahawks eventually broke and countered with a kill by Julia Bobrowski (California, MD). However, the Seahawks were unable to recover and fell 25-13 in the first, 25-17 in the second, and 25-16 in the third set.

  • The Seahawk's second match was against the Angels of Meredith College. The Seahawks kept a close match until their 13th point. The Angels went on to close out the first match 25-15. The second match was won by the Angels 25-15, and the third 25-11. 

Key Plays

  • Julia Bobrowski led the team in kills against Central College with 7. Jillian Zukley (Severna Park, MD)  was right behind with 5. Meghan Stevens (Westminster, MD) led in kills against Meredith College with 6.

  • Alayna Sievert (Lusby, MD) led the Seahawks in assists against Central College and Meredith College with 7 in both matches.

Up Next

The St. Mary's Volleyball is back in action in Raleigh, North Carolina Saturday, September 9th at 10 AM when they face the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan. The Seahawks will also face the Eagles of Bridgewater College later that same day to finish out the Raleigh Invitational.
