Box Score Baltimore, MD- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Volleyball team (12-9) traveled to Notre Dame (MD) (10-9) for a United East Conference Match. The Seahawks defeated the Gators in five sets.

How it Happened

The Seahawks and Gators played a neck and neck contest that started in the first set. The largest lead either team had in the frame was five. St. Mary's and Notre Dame (MD) were knotted at 23 before two straight Seahawk points courtesy of Julia Bobrowski and Faith Shockley gave them a one set lead.

Notre Dame (MD) leveled the score at one set a piece in set two. The Gators used a strong start to the frame to propel them, jumping out to a 16-6 lead. St. Mary's rallied the best they could in the set, cutting the Gator lead to just four. The early deficit would prove to be insurmountable for St. Mary's as they fell 25-20.

St. Mary's was the one to jump out to an early lead in set three, leading Notre Dame (MD) 13-3 to get things going. The Gators were able to successfully come back and actually claimed their first lead of the set at 22-21. The Seahawks were able to deliver when it counted most, scoring the final four straight points to claim a 2-1 lead in the match. Maya Mauro contributed a kill over that run, while Julia Bobrowski picked up two.

The Seahawks led for a majority of the fourth set, but could never quite build a comfortable lead. The Gators remained within striking distance and eventually went on to tie the game at 20 all. This time, it was the Gators who would cose things out, scoring the final three points of the fourth set to win 25-23 and force a fifth and final set.

Notre Dame (MD) jumped out in front early, claiming a 4-0 lead. St. Mary's was able to recapture the momentum and built up their own lead at 8-5. The Gators responded by scoring six straight points of their own to take control. Both the Gators and Seahawks went on small runs throughout the final set, but neither team could separate themselves completely. Notre Dame (MD) eventually reached game point at 19-18 and the Seahawks responded in a big way. Maya Mauro recorded a kill to tie the game at 19. Just like that, St. Mary's took a one point lead following a Gator error. At game point, Mauro came up huge for St. Mary's who delivered a service ace to claim a 21-19 set five victory to claim the match.
