St. Mary's, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (2-1) kicked off the Jamie L. Roberts Memorial Tournaments with a matchup against the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers (1-1). St. Mary's dropped the game to RIT, 61-54

The Seahawks held the lead early in what was a low scoring defensive start to the game. St. Mary's led RIT 12-7 following the opening quarter of play. Tramarie Mobray and Keira Mason each recorded four points for the Seahawks over the course of the opening 10 minutes.Â

Both teams began to wake up offensively in the second quarter. The Tigers captured their first lead since early in the second quarter with just 36 seconds to go in the half at 22-20. The Seahawks were able to answer right back to take a 23-22 lead at the halftime break thanks to a made Olivia Liszt three pointer. Marley Saunders played a key role in the second quarter for St. Mary's, as she connected on two triples.Â

Marley Saunders kicked off the new half by connecting on another three pointer to give St. Mary's a 26-22 lead early in the third quarter. RIT began to chip away at the Seahawk advantage and eventually led by as much as six over St. Mary's. The Tigers took a four point lead into the final quarter of play. Keira Mason contributed four points in the quarter for the Seahawks, while Samantha Miller connected on a crucial three pointer as well.Â

The fourth quarter began all RIT, as they grew a 12 point advantage. The Seahawks would eventually shrink that lead to as little as four following another made three pointer from Samantha Miller, but it would prove to be too little, too late for St. Mary's. RIT took the contest, 61-54. Â
