St. Mary’s College Men’s Soccer Tripped Up in NCAA Tournament

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The 2024 campaign for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team wrapped up Saturday afternoon (Nov. 16) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship Tournament. St. Mary's College (11-7-3) dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to No. 6 Dickinson College (15-2-3) on the campus of the University of Lynchburg.

The Seahawks conclude the season making their second straight as well as second overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. SMCM claimed both the United East Conference regular-season and tournament championship titles.

How It Happened
  • Dickinson outshot St. Mary's College, 6-2, in the first half, but only two Red Devil shots were on target.

Connor Utterdijk connected Dickinson's next shot in the 44th minute; however, Eckman was up to the challenge once again and the two sides headed into halftime in a scoreless draw.
  • Halftime served the Seahawks well as they came out firing, peppering Aidan George with three shots in a seven-minute span.
  • The Red Devils broke through in the 61st minute when Jackson Wolf slipped one past sophomore goalie Zack Reed (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown).
  • SMCM had one more go at George in the 78th minute when sophomore forward Lucas Evans (Greenbelt, Md./South River) tried to bury one into the bottom left side of the goal.
