Box Score Washington, D.C-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (4-3) traveled to the nation capital for their first United East Conference matchup against the Gallaudet Bison (2-5). The Seahawks earned their first conference victory of the season, coming out on top 66-61.

Gallaudet jumped out to an early seven point lead over St. Mary's, going up 9-2 in the opening three minutes. The Seahawks settled in and tied the game a few minutes later at nine a piece after Sam Blaylock connected on a three pointer. St. Mary's closed the quarter out strong thanks to three pointers from Sam Blaylock and Halimah Hajhassan. The Seahawks led 21-15 after one.Â

The Seahawks and Bison played a back and forth second quarter that saw the Seahawks hanging on to a seven point lead at the half. Keira Mason began to get things going for St. Mary's, as she finished with six points in the quarter. Rayna Miller chipped in five points as well, including a made triple.Â

St. Mary's and Gallaudet continued to trade shots to begin the new half. The Bison got back to within one before Halimah Hajhassan connected on a shot from behind the arc to push the Seahawk lead back to four. The Seahawks went cold to end the quarter and Gallaudet cut the lead to two at 46-44 going into the last 10 minutes.

The lead changed four times in the opening three minutes of the fourth quarter before an Olivia Hedrick layup re-established the Seahawk lead and they never gave it up. It wasn't easy for St. Mary's, as they didn't hold more than a one possession lead until the 2:43 mark. The Seahawks relied on clutch shots at crucial times to keep the Bison from recapturing the lead. Sam Blaylock drained two massive three pointers and Keira Mason put in clutch layups to help the Seahawks hold on. St. Mary's went on to win, 66-61.Â
