ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team closed out their Seahawks Holiday Classic on a 'merry' note Sunday afternoon (Dec. 15). A dominant second half propelled St. Mary's College (6-4) to a 78-51 victory over SUNY Maritime College (5-4).
How It Happened
- The Seahawks trailed for only 15 seconds early on when Maritime claimed a 4-3 lead at 14:45 on a Jake Murphy layup. The Privateers stayed close, coming within 9-8 at 11:33 following a three-pointer by Murphy, but SMCM used a 9-0 push to notch its first double-digit lead of the game at 8:35.
- St. Mary's College continued to distance themselves and a three-point shot by senior captain Jake Koverman (Severna Park, Md./Southern) ran the margin to 33-20 with 1:41 left in the half before heading into halftime with a 33-24 advantage.
- The Seahawks posted their first 20-point lead at 13:11 on a layup by first-year forward Yassine Idrissa (Rockville, Md./Wootton) and never looked back on their way to their biggest margin of victory this season.

- SMCM tallied its highest field goal percentage of the season, connecting on 55.8-percent of its field goals. The Seahawks also knocked down a season-high nine three-pointers.
- Maritime struggled from the field, finishing the game with a 28.6-field goal percentage. The Privateers went to the line 29 times, making 19 free throws.
- St. Mary's College registered a 37-31 rebounding margin and dished out a season-best 21 assists.

- Five Seahawks scored in double digits. Idrissa recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds plus a career-best two steals for the third straight time.
- Koverman contributed 14 points and a career-high three assists while first-year guard Tjay Beckles (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) added 13 points and four boards.
- Sophomore guard Kyree Smith (Baltimore, Md./City) notched 11 points to go along with season-bests of nine caroms and six assists.
- Junior guard Jaden Walker (York, Pa./West York) came off the bench to chip in a season-high 10 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
- Sophomore guard James Lerner (Herndon, Va./Maret) put up seven points and a season-best six assists.

- Murphy poured in a game-best 19 points while Jake Devaney added 10 points in the Privateers' second straight loss.
