CLEARWATER, Fla. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team were hindered by a slow start in a neutral site loss Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 12). St. Mary's College (4-3) came up short in a 20-10 non-conference loss to No. 5 Franklin & Marshall College (5-1) at the Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
How It Happened
- Junior attacker Hailey Betch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) put the Seahawks on the board first before Franklin & Marshall responded with six unanswered goals to stake a 6-1 lead at 3:43. First-year midfielder Sanne Elling (Ocean View, Del./Sussex Academy) interrupted the Diplomats' run with her third of the season at 1:59. F&M headed into the second frame with a 7-2 advantage following Gillian Brennan's third goal of the quarter.
- Betch and sophomore attacker Katelin Scala (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) pulled SMCM within 7-4 at 10:51 with back-to-back goals in a 34-second span to start the second. However, Franklin & Marshall created separation with another 6-0 run to take a 13-4 lead into halftime.
- The Diplomats continued their momentum with three straight to begin the second half and set the running clock into motion. A pair of SMCM woman-up goals sandwiched an unassisted F&M tally for a 17-6 score through three quarters.
- St. Mary's College found its offensive rhythm, opening the fourth with three in a row to stop the running clock and lower the deficit to eight. The Diplomats ended the game with a 3-1 run.

- F&M registered a 35-21 shot margin and posted a 16-6 margin in ground balls.

Franklin & Marshall Game Notes
- Brennan finished with a game-high six points on a game-best five goals and one assist while Sarah Bowyer earned a game-high seven draw controls.
- Alyssa Moran and Mary Scally combined for five saves in the Diplomats' fifth straight win.
