SPARKS GLENCOE, Md. – Junior attacker
Hailey Betch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) put up a season-best seven goals on the scoreboard in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team to their fourth consecutive win Wednesday night (Mar. 6). St. Mary's College (4-2) posted a 20-11 non-conference victory over Capital University (4-2) on William G. Tierney Field at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters.
How It Happened
- Betch went to work early, notching a hat trick and an assist, while senior captain MC Mortimer (Baltimore, Md./Friends) dished out two helpers to give the Seahawks the early 5-1 lead after one quarter of action.
- The Capital Comets found their footing in the second frame, responding with five unanswered goals to claim their first lead of the game, 6-5, with 6:52 to go in the first half. Betch ended the Capital run with her fourth, but Andi Henry had the Comets back in front just over a minute later with a woman-up goal. St. Mary's College had the last word as SMCM closed out the half on a 4-0 run in the final 3:47 to head into the locker room with a 10-7 advantage. Betch and sophomore attacker Katelin Scala (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) each scored twice in the run.
- After the Seahawks tallied the first score of the third, Capital fired off three straight to pull within 11-10 at 5:20. St. Mary's College put the game away with a 5-0 run that carried into the start of the fourth, boasting a six-goal advantage with 13:23 remaining in the game.

- The Seahawks outshot Capital, 46-25, and won the ground ball battle, 26-11, as sophomore defender Kendall Curry (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) scooped up a career-best five loose balls.
- St. Mary's College also gained an 18-16 edge in draw controls behind Scala's season-high five draw controls.

- Betch finished the game with season-highs of seven goals and nine points while adding two dimes.
- Junior attacker Ella Baynes (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) notched Seahawk career-bests of four goals and five points.
- Mortimer distributed the ball well, handing out a career-high four assists, while chipping in a season-high three draw controls and a goal.
- In addition to her five ground balls, Curry matched her career-best of three caused turnovers.
- First-years Allie Greeley (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) and Annie Wise (Canton, Ga./Woodstock) both saw time in goal and combined for seven saves.
Capital Game Notes
- Grace Osborn and Henry each had three goals for the Comets while Osborn collected a game-best seven draw controls.
- Emily Serafinchon made 17 saves in Capital's second loss of the season.
