Seahawks Baseball Splits with Penn College

St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Baseball Team (7-15) concluded their weekend series with the Wildcats of Penn College (16-16) with a Saturday doubleheader. The Seahawks fell in game one, 8-3, but bounced back in the second game, 8-0. 

How It Happened (Game 1) 

  • The Wildcats opened up the scoring in the top of the third with a two run inning. 

  • Trevor Smith kept up his hot streak at the plate giving the Seahawks their first run of the game on a two out RBI single that sent home Cole Tarleton, who singled earlier in the inning.

  • St. Mary's tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run from Derrick Booker. 

  • Penn College added three more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead.

  • Trevor Smith connected on a lead off home run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Wildcat lead to just two. 

  • The Wildcats had a three run top of the seventh and held on to win 8-3 in the first game.

How It Happened (Game 2) 

  • The Seahawks started fast with a three run bottom of the first after an Ian Walters three run home run. 

  • The next points scored by either team would be the bottom of the fifth when the Seahawks added two more runs to their tally. Aaron Wathen notched a two run RBI that scored Ian Walters and Cole Tarleton. 

  • St. Mary's extended their lead to seven in the bottom of the seventh. Aaron Wathen and Garrett Pullium each picked up an RBI in the inning.

  • The Seahawks added one more run in the bottom of the eighth on a Adrian Auber sac fly with the bases loaded to score Derrick Booker after walking earlier in the inning.
