LYNCHBURG, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team headed down to Virginia to take on their third nationally-ranked opponent of the season Saturday afternoon (April 27). St. Mary's College (11-6) lost its second straight, falling 18-6 at No. 16 University of Lynchburg (12-5) in the Seahawks' regular-season finale.
How It Happened
- Lynchburg scored twice in three minutes to claim a 2-0 lead at 7:02. SMCM responded in kind as junior midfielder Drew Goldscheider (Pikesville, Md./Beth Tfiloh) and first-year Declan Horton (University Park, Md./DeMatha) each found the back of the game to tie up the contest at 3:36. Liam Holman used an unassisted goal at 1:51 to give the Hornets a one-goal lead heading into the second quarter.
- For the second time in the contest, St. Mary's College evened up the score behind junior midfielder Nate Hochrein's (Towson, Md./Towson) 20th tally of the season for the first goal of the second frame at 13:06. Lynchburg strung together five unanswered goals to boast an 8-3 advantage at 4:46. Forty-four seconds later, first-year Gavin McKay (Urbana, Md./Urbana) provided a speed bump to the Hornets' run with an unassisted score. The hosts tacked on two more to own a 10-4 advantage at halftime.
- The momentum stayed with Lynchburg as they opened the second half with four straight goals and a 10-goal lead at 10:26 of the third quarter.
- Senior captain Johnny McGrain (Lutherville-Timonium, Md./Dulaney) and Hochrein notched the Seahawks' final two goals of the game as the Hornets outscored the visitors, 4-2, over the final 18 minutes of the game.

- Lynchburg registered a 48-29 shot advantage while edging the Seahawks, 41-39, in ground balls.
- The Hornets also posted a narrow margin in face-off wins, 15-13.

- Junior Cullen McKay (Urbana, Md./Urbana) collected 11 saves and three ground balls in 55 minutes.
Lynchburg Game Notes
- Jake Rust tallied four points on three goals and one helper while Dylan Wolfe and Grant Voight each chipped in two goals and an assist.
- Tyler Hadley had eight stops in 50 minutes as the Hornets won their sixth straight.
