St. Mary's City, MD. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Soccer Team (1-0) opened up the 2024 season with a non-conference matchup against Greensboro College in the annual Seahawk classic (0-1). The Seahawks defeated the Pride 4-1 in the opening game of the Seahawk Classic.Â
How it Happened

The Seahawks out shot the Pride 7-1 over the first 22 minutes of the game, but 23 minutes in, Greensboro capitalized on their second shot of the game to take a 1-0 lead over St. Mary's. Amery Skinner contributed the Pride's first tally of the contest.Â

Despite trailing by one, the St. Mary's squad remained composed and continued to chip away at the Greensboro back line. The Seahawks eventually broke through in the 38th minute thanks to a Makayla Marvray unassisted goal.Â

The Seahawks didn't stop there. Just three minutes later, Mia McKenzie gave St. Mary's their first lead of the game on another unassisted goal for the Seahawks.

St. Mary's took a 2-1 lead into the halftime intermission.Â

Just three minutes into the new half, Alyssa McLane gave the Seahawks their third goal of the game and a two score advantage.Â

The St. Mary's defense held strong in the second half, allowing only three Greensboro shots and no goals.The Pride didn't record a shot for the first 20 minutes of the second half.Â

Gracie Tourangeau put the finishing touches on the Seahawks' first win of the new season by giving them their fourth goal of the day.     Â
