Seahawks Men’s Soccer, No. 4 Washington College Play to Scoreless Draw

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team kicked off action at their own Seahawk Classic Saturday afternoon (Sept. 7). St. Mary's College (1-1-1) and No. 4 Washington College (1-1-2) finished in a 0-0 tie in the Seahawks' home-opener.

How It Happened
  • SMCM took the first crack at goal in the sixth minute as sophomore midfielder Christian Johnson (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) put one on frame that was handled by Cole White.
  • The Shoremen generated a couple of scoring opportunities around the 22nd minute, earning a pair of corner kicks and orchestrating three shots, twice testing sophomore Jordon Eckman (Fallston, Md./Loyola Blakefield).
  • The second half witnessed back-and-forth action with neither side sustaining a consistent attack.
  • Sophomore midfielder Braden Kindred (Olney, Md./Sherwood) claimed St. Mary's College's second quality attempt in the 83rd minute as Kindred sent in a low shot bottom left but White was up to the challenge once again.
  • Tucker Sprano gave Washington College a good look at the goal in the 87th minute, forcing Eckman to tip the ball over the goal and give up a corner kick. The Shoremen squandered their seventh corner of the game, resulting in no shot attempts.
