ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team had their two-game win streak halted Tuesday night (Jan. 28). St. Mary's College (11-10, 7-5 UEC) dropped a 77-62 United East Conference decision to Notre Dame of Maryland University (10-10, 7-4 UEC), splitting the season series with the Gators.
How It Happened
- The first half featured five tied scores and four lead changes with the Seahawks owning the lead for just 2:39 over the first 20 minutes.
- First-year guard Sekou Bangoura (Olney, Md./Magruder) drained his first career three-pointer to give SMCM its biggest lead of the game, 27-22, at 5:52. Notre Dame went to outscore the hosts, 16-5, over the final minutes of the half to stake a 38-32 advantage at the break.
- A 6-4 push within the first five minutes of the second half allowed St. Mary's College to pull within four but the Seahawks would get no closer the rest of the way.
- The Gators used a 22-15 run over the next 10 minutes to establish a double-digit margin, 64-53, with 5:08 remaining in the game. NDMU maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game, leading by as many as 18.

- SMCM was efficient from behind the three-point arc, hitting 10-of-15 three-point field goals for a season-best .667-three-point field goal percentage.
- St. Mary's College matched a season-high 10 blocks for the fourth time this season as first-year Yassine Idrissa (Rockville, Md./Wootton) led the way with five.
- Notre Dame capitalized on the Seahawks' season-low 27 turnovers, turning those miscues into 37 points. The Gators also edged SMCM, 38-37, in rebounds.

- Sophomore guard James Lerner (Herndon, Va./Maret) notched a Seahawk-best 14 points as Lerner was 4-of-5 from downtown. He also dished out four assists and collected a season-high two steals.
- In his first career start, first-year guard James Crimaudo (Riva, Md./South River) chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.
- Bangoura came off the bench to provide career-bests of nine points and four caroms.
- Idrissa finished the game with a game-high eight boards and eight points to go with his five blocks.
Notre Dame Game Notes
- Chandler Johnson led all scorers with 21 points in the Gators' second straight win.
