Second-Half Surge Powers SMCM Men’s Soccer Past Lancaster Bible

St. Mary’s College Finishes as No. 1 Seed

LANCASTER, Pa. – Four different Seahawks found the back of the net as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season Saturday afternoon (Oct. 25) with their second straight United East Conference regular-season championship title. St. Mary's College (12-5-1, 8-0-0 UEC) secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming United East Men's Soccer Championship Tournament with a 4-0 road win over Lancaster Bible College (8-6-3, 4-3-1 UEC).

The Seahawks will welcome either No. 8 seed University of Valley Forge (4-10-3) or No. 9 seed Penn State Berks (3-14-1) to the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium on Sat., Nov. 1, for the quarterfinals of the United East Tournament. Game time and ticket prices will be announced later.

How It Happened
  • Sophomore midfielder Zach Blaum (Richmond, Va./Atlee) connected with sophomore forward Nick Haney (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) to put SMCM on the scoreboard at 9:30, one-timing Haney's cross for his fifth goal of the season.
  • Chris Jackson made four saves in the first half to hold St. Mary's College to one goal heading into halftime.
  • Two minutes into the second half, Haney netted a goal of his own when he headed in a cross from junior forward Lucas Evans (Greenbelt, Md./South River) at the far post for a 2-0 lead.
  • Evans then joined in on the scoring fun with an unassisted goal at 50:28, ripping a shot from just outside the penalty box into the right side of the goal.
  • Sophomore forward William Marbray (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) gave the Seahawks a four-goal cushion at 68:25 when junior forward Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) slotted a 20-yard pass and Marbray won the foot race, beating Jackson and finding the back of the net from the edge of the box.
