ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Senior forward
Brenna Ziegler (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) put up career-bests of three assists and seven points in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team in a dominant win Saturday afternoon (Nov. 1). Top-seeded St. Mary's College (12-5) blanked fourth-seeded Lancaster Bible College (3-13), 9-0, in the semifinals of the 2025 United East Conference Championship Tournament.
The Seahawks, the defending United East champions, are advancing to their fifth straight title game. SMCM will host No. 2 seed Penn State Harrisburg (13-2) in the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium. Game time and ticket prices will be announced early next week.
How It Happened
- Ziegler had a hand in the first two goals of the game, giving St. Mary's College a 2-0 lead just four minutes into the game. The Seahawks ended the first period with a 3-0 lead after junior midfielder Tori Hampton (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) found the back of the cage at 11:51 for her first goal of the season.
- Junior defender Safi Stimely (Linthicum, Md./Broadneck) and senior midfielder Josie Shermeyer (Harrisburg, Pa./East Pennsboro) scored less than two minutes apart in the second quarter to send SMCM into halftime with a 5-0 advantage.
- Ziegler was part of two more goals in the third frame as she assisted on senior forward Briana Allen's (Bowie, Md./Mount de Sales) goal while notching her second of the afternoon. Sophomore forward Olivia Schwendeman (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) tallied her fourth of the season to stretch the home lead to 8-0.
- Senior midfielder Fiona Kortyna (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine Richland) wrapped up the scoring for St. Mary's College with a goal at 58:05.

- The Seahawks concluded the game with a 51-1 shot advantage, including posting 33 shots on target, while collecting an 18-1 margin in penalty corners.
- SMCM now leads the all-time series with Lancaster Bible, 3-0.

Lancaster Bible
- Amanda Hoover made 20 stops through the first three quarters while Amelia Huey added three in the fourth quarter. Hailey Whitmoyer added a defensive save in the defensive effort.
