LATHAM, N.Y. – Sophomores
Blake Carberry (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) and
Ella Mitchell (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr) were named the United East Conference Elite 21 Award honoree for men's and women's cross country, respectively, as announced by the league office at the 2025 United East Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Nov. 1 at Penn State Brandywine.
The Elite 21 Award honors the student-athlete with the highest grade point average from a team that finishes in the top four of the team standings at United East Championship.
Carberry boasts a 4.00 GPA as a mathematics major. He landed on the 2024 United East Fall All-Academic Team and was named to the Dean's List twice in his first year at St. Mary's College. Carberry is a two-time All-United East performer after finishing 15th at this year's championships for Second Team honors.
The Seahawk men notched a second-place finish for the second straight season, totaling 55 points in the 10-team field.
Mitchell also owns a 4.00 GPA as a biochemistry major and a double minor in history and biology. She earned a spot on last season's United East Fall All-Academic Team and made the Dean's List twice during her first year at SMCM. Mitchell picked up her second straight First Team honor after finishing as the runner-up at the championships.
St. Mary's College captured its fifth straight United East women's cross country championship title as the Seahawks bested the eight-team field with 53 points.
Both squads will be back in action this Saturday, Nov. 15 at the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa. Racing is scheduled to start at 11 am with the men's race followed by the women at 12 pm.
