ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce the hiring of Nikolaus Meyer as the next head men's and women's rowing coach. Meyer has already begun his duties as the program's fourth head coach in the 10-year history of the varsity men's and women's rowing programs.

Meyer said, "I am honored by the faith the athletics department has in me to take on this position. This will be my first true head coaching position and I'm so excited by the possibilities that this opens up. The program has seen great success during the last four years that I've served as the assistant coach / interim head coach and I'm confident we'll soar to even greater heights as I step into the head coach role!"

The North Potomac, Md. native is entering his fifth season with the St. Mary's College men's and women's rowing teams. He spent his first two seasons as an assistant coach before being named the interim head coach for the 2023-24 campaign. Meyer stepped back into the assistant role for the 2024-25 season.

The Seahawks women's rowing program has experienced unparalleled success during Meyer's tenure. In his first season as an assistant coach in 2021-22, SMCM captured the program's first-ever Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Women's Rowing Championship title and made the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Rowing Championships.

As the interim head coach in 2023-24, the St. Mary's College women repeated as the MARC champions and notched a second appearance at the NCAA Championships. Meyer earned MARC Women's Coach of the Year honors as well as Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year for his leadership during the 2023-24 season.

This past season, he was part of the coaching staff named CRCA Mid-Atlantic Region Co-Staff of the Year for the second straight season after the Seahawk women repeated as MARC champions and made the grand finals at the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history.

Meyer, who holds a US Rowing Level 2 coaching certification, has also served as an assistant coach with Blair Crew Inc. (2018-21) and Elizabeth Seton High School (2018-21).

He graduated from the University of Maryland in 2021 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering with a minor in general business.
