Fast Start Propels St. Mary's College Women's Basketball Past Lancaster Bible in Regular Season Finale

Lancaster PA,-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (18-7) traveled to Lancaster Bible College (10-14) to conclude the regular season. The Seahawks defeated the Chargers 65-42. 

How It Happened

  • The Seahawks wasted no time growing a big lead, as they jumped out in front of the Chargers 23-8 after the first quarter of play. St. Mary's went on a 12 point run in the middle of the quarter that featured three pointers from Olivia Liszt and Sidney Shaw. Keira Mason and Sam Blaylock got in on the scoring action during that stretch as well. St. Mary's concluded the opening frame with another scoring run, this one going for seven points that saw Halimah Hajhassan connect on a three pointer. 

  • St. Mary's and Lancaster Bible traded baskets for a majority of the second quarter. Olivia Liszt led the Seahawks in points in the quarter with three. Rayna Miller was able to get a last second layup to fall, as St. Mary's closed the half leading 33-20.

  • Olivia Liszt kept her strong game going, scoring the first six points of the new half for St. Mary's. Tramarie Mobray began to get in on the scoring action for St.Mary's. Mobray put in four points in the third quarter. Saffiyah Gibson ended the quarter with a bang for the Seahawks, dropping in a last second triple to give them a 15 point lead going into the final 10 minutes of action. 

  • Lancaster Bible began to quarter hot, trimming the Seahawk lead to 11. St. Mary's went on to respond in a big way by completely slamming the door shut on any Chargers comeback attempt with a 14-0 run that spanned over five minutes. Sam Blaylock chipped in eight of those 14 points, six of which came from behind the arc. Tramarie Mobray, Samantha Miller, and Saffiyah Gibson also tallied a basket over the run as well. The Seahawk took home a decisive 65-42 win and turn their focus towards the United East Conference Tournament, where they hold the top seed.

  • Olivia Liszt finished with a team high 15 points.

  • Tramarie Mobray and Sam Blaylock each finished with 10 points.

  • Sidney Shaw contributed seven points and earned six steals.
