SMCM Women’s Lacrosse Doubled Up by No. 12 Roanoke

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team faced their second nationally-ranked opponent in as many games Saturday afternoon (Mar. 1). St. Mary's College (0-3) dropped an 18-9 non-conference decision to No. 12 Roanoke College (2-0).
 
How It Happened
  • Midfielders Hope Harrison (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) and Colin Horton (University Park, Md./Elizabeth Seton) gave the Seahawks an early 2-0 lead at 5:40.
  • Roanoke responded with an 8-0 run to post a six-goal advantage with 8:35 remaining in the first half. Senior captain Madison Laine (Kingsville, Md./Mercy) notched a woman-down goal three minutes later to slow down the Maroons. RC tacked on two more to head into halftime with a 10-3 lead.
  • SMCM used a 4-3 push behind three goals from Horton to make it 13-7 with 3:23 left in the third.
  • The Maroons put the game out of reach by scoring the next five goals to establish an 11-goal margin with 10:10 remaining in the game. St. Mary's College got two back with goals from Horton and senior attacker Ella Baynes (Baltimore, Md./Catholic).

Inside the Box Score
  • The Seahawks registered a 20-10 advantage in draw controls as sophomore defender Claire Boudreau (Towson, Md./Towson) matched her career-high with a game-best seven draws.
  • Roanoke gained a 29-27 shot advantage as well as a +12-turnover margin (10-22). The Maroons also gained a 15-10 margin in ground balls.
 
St. Mary's College Game Notes
  • Horton finished the afternoon with five goals, a season-best five draw controls, and a career-high three ground balls. Horton was also a perfect 3-for-3 on free-position shots.
  • Harrison chipped in a goal and career-best two assists.
  • Along with her seven draw controls, Boudreau notched season-highs of three caused turnovers and two ground balls to lead the defense.
  • Junior Isabel Gautreaux (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) made seven saves in 43:50 to drop to 0-2 on the season.
 
Roanoke Game Notes
  • Raegan Becker led the Maroons with five goals while Zoe Blair tallied a game-best seven points on four goals and three assists.
  • Kendall Todd finished with seven stops for RC's second straight win.
