OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team dropped its fourth game in a row Wednesday night (Mar. 5). St. Mary's College (0-4) fell 16-12 to Stevenson University (4-1) in non-conference action.
How It Happened
- Stevenson opened the game with a 4-1 run to lead by three at 6:51. The Seahawks closed out the first quarter on a 3-1 run, including back-to-back goals from senior captain Hailey Betch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) to head into the second quarter down 5-4.
- The Mustangs began the second period with two goals followed by two goals from SMCM to maintain a one-goal game at 8:35. SU then put together a 3-1 run to boast a 10-7 advantage at 2:37. Senior captain Colin Horton (University Park, Md./Elizabeth Seton) converted a free-position shot at 1:43 and St. Mary's College went into halftime with a two-goal deficit.
- The third frame was all Stevenson as the hosts outscored the Seahawks, 6-1, to go into the final 15 minutes of the game with a 16-9 advantage.
- St. Mary's College netted all three goals in the fourth stanza, scoring them in a five-minute span to pull within 16-12 at 4:16. The Seahawks were unable to get any closer as SMCM turned the ball over twice in the final four minutes.

- St. Mary's College controlled the draw controls with a 22-9 advantage as sophomore defender Claire Boudreau (Towson, Md./Towson) grabbed a career- and game-high nine draws.
- The Seahawks made the most of their four free-position shots, converting three of them, while Stevenson was 5-for-11.
- The Mustangs edged SMCM in shots, 33-32 and gained an 18-12 margin in ground balls.
St. Mary's College Game Notes
- Betch finished the night with four goals and two assists for six points while winning five draws.
- Horton also scored four goals and won five draw controls.
- Boudreau and junior attacker Katelin Scala (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) led the defensive effort with two ground balls and a caused turnover each.
- Sophomore Allie Greeley (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) came up with six saves and a ground ball in 40:29 minutes of relief.
Stevenson Game Notes
- Kara Yarusso was the game's top point-getter with seven points on four goals and three assists while Olivia Galati added four goals as well.
- Regan Torbert finished with 12 stops, three ground balls and one caused turnover in SU's fourth straight win.
