YORK, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team battled their third nationally-ranked opponent of the season Wednesday evening (Mar. 19). St. Mary's College (2-5) owned a 5-4 lead halfway through the second quarter, but No. 10 York College of Pennsylvania (4-2) outscored the Seahawks 12-5 the rest of the way to lock up the 16-10 non-conference win.
How It Happened
- SMCM opened the game with a 4-1 run to stake a three-goal lead with 3:54 left in the first quarter as senior captain Colin Horton (University Park, Md./Elizabeth Seton) scored twice.
- The Spartans responded with three goals in a row to know the contest at four-all with 8:43 to go in the first half. Logan Ward assisted on two of those goals.
- Thirty seconds later, senior captain Madison Laine (Kingsville, Md./Mercy) handed St. Mary's College its final lead of the game, 5-4, with a woman-up goal.
- YCP closed out the first half with a 3-1 run to post a 7-6 advantage at halftime.
- York began to distance itself with four straight goals to start the third frame, taking an 11-6 lead with 6:39 remaining in the third.
- The Spartans edged the visitors, 5-4, over the final 21 minutes of the game to seal the win.

- YCP outshot the Seahawks, 34-25 and notched a marginal +2-turnover margin (19-21).

- In goal, junior Isabel Gautreaux (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) scooped up a game- and season-best six ground balls while making five saves.

- Zoe Kluegel led all players with five goals and seven points while Gianna Huet added three goals and two helpers.
