St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team hosted Penn State Berks for their second United East conference match this season. The Seahawks defeated the Lions 5-2. This win moves the Seahawks to 1-1 in conference play.
How It Happened:
Doubles
- Nick Rohr (Fairfax County, Va./ James W. Robinson) and Jacob Nelson (Olney, Md./ Sherwood) competed in the No. 1 doubles match for the Seahawks. Rohr and Nelson fell 6-2 to the Lions.
- Andrew Hand (Huntingtown, Md./ Huntingtown) and Alex Lyman (Annapolis, Md./ Annapolis) dropped in the No. 2 duo, losing 6-1.
- The Seahawks No.3 double tandem featured Max Esztergomi (Bethesda, Md./ Walt Whitman) and Hudson Christensen (Annapolis, Md./ St. Mary's). Esztergomi and Christensen won their match 6-3.
Singles
- Nick Rohr (Fairfax County, Va./ James W. Robinson) won the match in two sets in the No. 1 singles match, winning the first set 7-5 win-by-two after coming back from a 1-4 deficit. Rohr won the second set 6-2.
- Max Esztergomi (Bethesda, Md./ Walt Whitman) competed in the No. 2 match, defeating the Lions in two sets 6-3 for both.
- Jacob Nelson (Olney, Md./ Sherwood) competed in the No. 3 spot, dropping the match in three sets. Nelson won the first set 6-1, then fell in the second and third set 6-3 for both.
- Andrew Hand (Huntingtown, Md./ Huntingtown) won in three sets in the No. 4 matchup, winning 6-3 in the first, dropping the second set 6-4, then finishing strong for a win 6-1 in the third set.
- Alex Lyman (Annapolis, Md./ Annapolis) won in three sets in action in the No. 5 match. Lyman lost the first set 7-5 despite a comeback from 2-5 and forcing the win-by-two. Lyman then won the second and third set 6-4 each.
- Devon Gorel (Jessup, Md./ Hammond) concluded the singles matches for the Seahawks in the No. 6 spot, winning in two sets 6-1 for both.
