St. Mary’s College Women’s Lacrosse Blanks Cedar Crest on Senior Day

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team continued their undefeated run in the United East Conference with their second shutout victory of the season Saturday evening (April 12). St. Mary's College (6-7, 3-0 UEC) posted a 29-0 triumph over Cedar Crest College (5-5, 1-2 UEC) to improve to 2-0 in league play.
 
After the game, the Seahawks recognized their six seniors – attackers Ella Baynes (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) and Hailey Betch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park), midfielders Colin Horton (University Park, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and Madison Laine (Kingsville, Md./Mercy), defender Kayla Kopf (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis), and goalie Isabel Gautreaux (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) – for their years of dedication and leadership.
 
Career Milestones
  • Betch accomplished not one but four milestones in the game this evening. She entered the game just shy of five points, four draw controls, three goals, and two assists to notch her 300th career point, her 250th career draw control, her 200th career goal, and her 100th career assist. Betch came up with a three-goal, three-assist performance to give her six points while also collecting four draw controls.
  • Horton needed four points to eclipse the 200-point career mark, and she finished with a four-point effort to achieve the career milestone.
 
How It Happened
  • SMCM opened the game with 12 goals in the first quarter before leading 20-0 at halftime.

  • St. Mary's College posted a 52-2 shot advantage as well as a 25-7 margin in ground balls.
  • The Seahawk defense forced 13 of Cedar Crest's 18 turnovers for a +11-turnover margin.
  • SMCM dominated the draw controls by a 24-8 edge.

  • Five Seahawks recorded three-goal hat tricks while sophomore attacker Sam Collins (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) put up career numbers with five points on two goals and three assists.
  • Horton and sophomore attacker Grace Maurice (Clinton, Conn./Cheshire) led St. Mary's College with three ground balls each while Horton added two caused turnovers.
  • Junior attacker Katelin Scala (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) and sophomore defender Claire Boudreau (Towson, Md./Towson) collected five draw controls apiece.
  • Gautreaux and sophomore Allie Greeley (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) equally split time in goal with Gautreaux making two stops in the first half and Greeley scooping up two ground balls over the final 30 minutes.

  • Irelyn Yoder turned away five Seahawk shots as Yoder played in three of four quarters.
