FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team ran their win streak to three Wednesday evening (April 16) as St. Mary's College took on a former Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference foe. The Seahawks (7-7) evened their season record with an 8-6 road win at University of Mary Washington (10-4), holding off a late fourth quarter surge by the host Eagles.

How It Happened
  • The low-scoring affair didn't get started until the final four minutes of the first quarter. Senior captain Hailey Betch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) scored the game's first goal at 3:45 and then aided on the next at 2:24 for a 2-0 SMCM lead heading into the second period.

St. Mary's College regained a two-goal lead less than nine minutes later as senior captain Colin Horton (University Park, Md./Elizabeth Seton) found the back of the net for a 3-1 lead with 5:40 remaining in the first half. The two-goal Seahawk lead held steady through halftime.
  • Abigail Fisher pulled the Eagles to 3-2 with 8:18 remaining in the third before back-to-back goals from Horton and Betch gave SMCM a 5-2 advantage with 13:58 left in the game. UMW got one back just 56 seconds later with an unassisted goal by Ava Windham.
  • Sophomore Sanne Elling (Ocean View, Del./Sussex Academy) handed St. Mary's College its biggest lead of the game at 7-3 with 6:42 to go in regulation as Elling scored twice in a span of 102 seconds.
  • Mary Washington rallied in the game's final six minutes, closing out the game with a 3-1 run. The Eagles notched two goals in the final minute, including one with 13 seconds to go, for the 8-6 final.
