St. Mary's City, Md. – The #2 seeded St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team hosted #3 seeded Penn State Abington for the semifinal match of the 2025 United East Conference Championship. The Seahawks claimed victory over the Lions 4-1, where the championship tournament requires only the first team to reach 4 points to win.
The Seahawks will take on #1 seeded Penn State Harrisburg for the championship match on May 4
th at the Hempfield Rec Center in Landisville, Pennsylvania.
How It Happened:
Doubles
- The Seahawks No.3 double tandem featured Max Esztergomi (Bethesda, Md./ Walt Whitman) and Hudson Christensen (Annapolis, Md./ St. Mary's). Esztergomi and Christensen dominated the Lions 6-0.
- Nick Rohr (Fairfax County, Va./ James W. Robinson) and Jacob Nelson (Olney, Md./ Sherwood) dropped in the No. 1 doubles match for the Seahawks. Rohr and Nelson fell to the Lions 6-2.
- Andrew Hand (Huntingtown, Md./ Huntingtown) and Alex Lyman (Annapolis, Md./ Annapolis) lost their match in the No. 2 doubles duo 7-5 in a win-by-two, dropping the doubles point to the Lions.
Singles
- Alex Lyman (Annapolis, Md./ Annapolis) dominated action in the No. 5 spot, winning 6-2, 6-3 for the first point for the Seahawks.
- Max Esztergomi (Bethesda, Md./ Walt Whitman) finished second in order of finish the No. 2 match, controlling the sets 6-3, 6-1.
- Devon Gorel (Jessup, Md./ Hammond) won in action in two sets the No. 6 spot, winning 6-3, 6-1 for the third Seahawk point.
- Jacob Nelson (Olney, Md./ Sherwood) earned the fourth team point in the No. 3 spot in two sets, 6-2, 6-0, sending the men's tennis team to the championship match.
