ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team faced their fourth Top 15 team of the season Saturday afternoon (April 5), hanging tough with No. 7 Salisbury University. St. Mary's College (4-7) trimmed an 11-goal deficit to six in the third quarter but came up short in an 18-11 non-conference loss to in-state rival Salisbury.
How It Happened
- Senior captain Madison Laine (Kingsville, Md./Mercy) used an unassisted goal 2:19 into the game to put the Seahawks on the scoreboard first.
- Salisbury put together an 11-2 run over the next 27:41 minutes to lead 11-3 at halftime. Miranda Mears paced the Sea Gulls in the run with five goals while Julianna Ott scored three times.
- SU opened the third frame with three consecutive goals to stake a 14-3 advantage with nine minutes remaining in the period. St. Mary's College won the third by notching five straight, including a pair from senior captain Colin Horton (University Park, Md./Elizabeth Seton), and cutting the visitors' lead to 14-8.
- Salisbury responded by beginning the final quarter with four in a row to rebuild a 10-goal margin with 10:24 left in the game. The Seahawks tallied the game's final three goals over the final 7:33 to make it 18-11.

- Salisbury outshot SMCM, 36-27 and finished the game with a +6-turnover margin as the Sea Gulls forced St. Mary's College into eight of its 14 turnovers.
- SU dominated draw controls, 22-10, while gaining the edge in ground balls as well, 11-8.

Salisbury Dame Game Notes
- Mears finished with a game-best six goals while Ott added four plus a game-best seven draws.
- Paige Ellis gave up seven goals and made just one save in the first 45:44 minutes of the game.
