Seahawks Men’s Lacrosse Exits NCAA Tournament

SALISBURY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team saw their 2025 campaign end Saturday afternoon (May 10) in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament Second Round. St. Mary's College (10-8) was outscored 8-0 in the second half to drop a 17-5 decision at No. 2 Salisbury University (20-0).
 
How It Happened
  • Salisbury struck first but sophomore Declan Horton (University Park, Md./DeMatha) and senior attackman Keegan Preis (Upper Falls, Md./Loyola Blakefield) put the Seahawks in front, 2-1, with 10:04 left in the first quarter, scoring back-to-back two goals in a 63-second span.
  • The Sea Gulls gained a four-goal lead with 13:50 left in the first half following a 5-0 run. Senior attackman Aiden Doyle (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and sophomore Gavin McKay (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) halted the host's run with consecutive goals to pull SMCM within 6-4 with 4:56 to go in the half.
  • Michael Leahy recorded a natural hat trick in a two-minute span to hand SU a five-goal advantage with 1:51 remaining in the second quarter. Junior attackman Joshua Martel (Linthicum, Md./North County) netted St. Mary's College's final goal of the game 12 seconds before halftime.

  • The Seahawk defense forced eight of Salisbury's nine turnovers; however, the Sea Gulls came away with a +7-turnover margin (9-16).
  • The Sea Gulls posted a 51-32 shot advantage while dominating face-off X with a 21-of-26 effort.

  • Five different Seahawks scored in today's game.
  • Senior defenseman Joe Murray (Lutherville, Md./Towson) once again led the defense as Murray notched team-bests of four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
  • Senior defensive midfielder Quinnten Hatfield (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and junior defenseman Joe Szymanski (Easton, Md./Easton) also each scooped up four loose balls while junior defenseman Adam Martin (Kent Island, Md./Kent Island) chipped in two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
  • Senior Cullen McKay (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) matched his career-high of 17 saves and picked up three ground balls.
 
Salisbury Game Notes
  • Leahy and Riley Strub both finished with a game-best four goals while Blake Malamphy was 20-for-24 in face-offs.
  • Nicholas Ransom made 11 saves and collected two ground balls in SU's second win over SMCM.
