Seahawks Women’s Lacrosse Four-peats as United East Champions

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team are the 2025 United East Conference Tournament Champions! No. 1 seed St. Mary's College (10-7) collected its fourth straight United East tournament title Saturday afternoon (May 3) with a 24-5 victory over No. 3 seed Bryn Athyn College (8-5).
 
The Seahawks earned the conference's automatic qualifier to the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament with today's victory. SMCM's next opponent will be revealed during the DIII women's lacrosse championship selection show on Monday, May 5 at 10:30 a.m. ET on NCAA.com.
 
Junior attacker Katelin Scala (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) picked up Tournament MVP honors after notching seven goals and six assists plus 10 draw controls and one ground ball during St. Mary's College's 2-0 tournament run. Scala contributed five points this afternoon on a career-best four goals and an assist to go along with four draws, including her 150th career draw control.
 
How It Happened
  • Kylie Scarpiello put Bryn Athyn on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal two-and-a-half minutes into the game.
  • St. Mary's College responded with 16 unanswered goals to stake a 16-1 lead with 2:47 remaining in the first half. Sabrina Brock interrupted the Seahawks' run with a score to send the home team into halftime with a 16-2 advantage.
  • The two sides alternated the first four goals of the third frame for an 18-4 contest with 5:54 remaining in the third.
  • SMCM rattled off six straight, including three in a row from sophomore midfielder Sanne Elling (Ocean View, Del./Sussex Academy), for a 24-4 lead with 5:11 remaining in the game.

  • St. Mary's College outshot the Lions, 33-10, while edging the visitors, 10-7, in ground balls.
  • The Seahawks dominated the draw controls by a 24-6 margin.
  • Both teams netted three free-position goals each.

  • Scala and Elling both finished the game with four goals and an assist. Elling registered career-bests of five points and two ground balls.
  • Seniors Madison Laine (Kingsville, Md./Mercy), Ella Baynes (Baltimore, Md./Catholic HS), and Hailey Betch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) all chipped three-goal hat tricks. Laine also added a season-best two assists to finish with a career-high five points.
  • Senior captain Colin Horton (University Park, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and sophomore defender Claire Boudreau (Towson, Md./Towson) each garnered six draw controls while Boudreau added three ground balls. In addition to her season-best six draws, Horton dished out a career-high two dimes and scored twice.
  • Senior Isabel Gautreaux (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) and sophomore Allie Greeley (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) split equal time in goal with Gautreaux making one save and Greeley notching three stops.
 
Bryn Athyn Game Notes
  • Five different Lions found the back of the net while Chloe Munyon finished with five saves, one ground ball and one caused turnover.
