LATHAM, N.Y. – St. Mary's College of Maryland had 11 programs pick up the third annual United East Conference Team Academic Award as announced by the league office Tuesday morning (June 10). This acknowledgment is awarded to United East-sponsored programs that achieved a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 or higher during the 2024-25 academic year.

The 11 St. Mary's College teams to garner the league's Team Academic Award were women's cross country (3.49), field hockey (3.60), women's soccer (3.59), women's volleyball (3.65), women's basketball (3.27), women's indoor track & field (3.30), men's lacrosse (3.33), women's lacrosse (3.44), women's tennis (3.61), and men's (3.28) and women's (3.30) outdoor track & field.
The Seahawks men's lacrosse and women's lacrosse represented the highest GPA in the conference within their respective sport. This is the second straight season that the SMCM men's lacrosse has boasted the best GPA among their conference foes.
However, SMCM women's volleyball led all St. Mary's College squads with the highest team GPA as they posted a 3.65 GPA during this academic year followed by women's tennis in second with a 3.61 GPA and field hockey in third with a 3.60 GPA.
One hundred and seventeen (117) teams from all 17 core members of the United East, as well as affiliates in track & field and men's volleyball, earned this distinction. Lancaster Bible College led all members with 15 programs collecting Team Academic Award honors while the Seahawks and Penn State Harrisburg tied for second with 11 teams each.
Lancaster Bible women's tennis topped all teams with a combined GPA of 3.89 while the Seahawks women's volleyball team ranked 10th with their team GPA.
A total of 19 of the 20 United East-sponsored sports had at least one team earn the award.
