ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – St. Mary's College of Maryland Director of Athletics and Recreation Crystal Gibson announced that Jessica Lanham has resigned as the head field hockey coach at St. Mary's College following nine seasons at the helm. Lanham is leaving collegiate athletics to pursue a teaching opportunity within the Calvert County Public School District.

"We thank Jess for her nine years of outstanding leadership and dedication to our field hockey program. Under her guidance, the team rose to championship-level success, and her impact on our student-athletes extends far beyond the playing field. Her legacy of excellence, competitiveness, and care will continue to shape our program for years to come," Gibson said.

In her nine seasons with the Seahawk field hockey program, Lanham became the program's all-time winningest coach with 80 career wins. Those 80 career victories included a 22-0 conference record between 2021 and 2024.

The Port Republic, Md., native led SMCM to four conference regular-season titles, two NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship Tournament appearances, and two conference tournament championship titles.

Lanham stated, "I want to thank Crystal Gibson and St. Mary's College of Maryland for the opportunity to lead the field hockey program the past nine years."

She garnered three conference Coach of the Year awards – two in the Atlantic East Conference (2021 and 2022) and one in the United East Conference (2024). Lanham coached 11 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region honorees, 34 All-Conference selections, and three conference Rookies of the Year while coaching four Seahawks to six Player of the Year awards.

Lanham also demanded excellence in the classroom as St. Mary's College produced 112 NFHCA National Academic Squad members as well as 142 selections to the conference All-Academic Teams. Additionally, the squad earned nine NFHCA National Academic Team awards while 16 Seahawks combined for 31 NFHCA Scholar of Distinction honors.

"I will miss the people, student-athletes, and families who helped the program grow throughout my time and helped me grow as a person. I am excited to see the program continue to climb to new heights in the coming years!"

A national search for the next Seahawk head field hockey coach will begin following the conclusion of the 2025 campaign.
