Box Score Frederick, Md. – A late strike from first-year forward Ella Raines proved to be the difference as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team earned a 1–0 road victory over Hood College on Wednesday evening at Thomas Athletic Field.
After a scoreless first half, the Seahawks broke through in the 79th minute when Raines converted a pass from sophomore Rebecca Flom to record her first goal of the season. The tally stood as the game-winner, giving St. Mary's its first road win of the 2025 season.
Goalkeeper Kyleigh Bland was steady once again, making three saves to secure a shut out for the second time in two games. The Seahawks (2–0–1) weathered 13 shots from the Blazers while generating seven attempts of their own, including two on frame.
Defensively, Brooke Hall, Ashlyn Bonner, Erin Clark and Allie Petryszak anchored the back line that kept Hood off the scoreboard despite three corner opportunities.
With the win, St. Mary's remains unbeaten through its opening three matches. The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, September 6th when they take on No.2 William-Smith in the Salisbury Classic.
