St. Mary’s College Men’s Soccer Drops Seahawk Classic Opener

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team began action at their own Seahawk Classic with a loss Saturday afternoon (Sept. 6). St. Mary's College (2-2-0) gave up five goals in a 5-1 loss to Washington College (1-2-0) in non-conference play.
 
How It Happened
  • Washington College jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the 33rd minute behind goals from Tyler Davidson and Stefanos Georgiou.
  • The Seahawks played a man down for 54 minutes after sophomore midfielder Zach Blaum (Richmond, Va./Atlee) was sent off the field with a red card following his second yellow card in the 36th minute.
  • The Shoremen headed into halftime with a 3-0 advantage after Sixten Nowlan found the back of the net at 40:26.
  • SMCM got one back at 52:18 after junior forward Lucas Evans (Greenbelt, Md./South River) converted a penalty kick, finding the lower left corner as Hannes Budde dived right.
  • Washington College regained a three-goal cushion at 63:55 when Tshazi Kamau also converted a penalty kick.
  • Daniel Tufano tacked on one more for the Shoremen in the 90th minute for the 5-1 final.
