ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team knotted the game at 2-2 but a late strike by University of Lynchburg nipped St. Mary's College, 3-2, Sunday afternoon (Sept. 7). The loss drops the Seahawks to 2-3-0 while Lynchburg moves to 2-0-2.
How It Happened
- Lynchburg jumped on the scoreboard at 12:09 when Bruno Rihl Silva sent a ball to the far post and Keaton Napior crossed it to the right for William Casey to head it in for the 1-0 LC lead.
- SMCM responded 20 minutes later when first-year midfielder Marco Mazzola (Pasadena, Md./Spalding) intercepted a Hornet pass and ripped a shot top shelf from roughly 20 yards out, skimming underneath the crossbar into the right corner.
- The Hornets went into the locker room with a 2-1 halftime lead after Kohlby Wilson heel-kicked a pass from Saul Lopez Coreas inside the far post less than two minutes before the break.
- Mazzola handed out his second assist of the season at 73:41, helping on the equalizer. Mazzola fed a long diagonal pass to junior forward Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair), who outran the Hornet defender to the pass and took a few touches to settle the ball before finishing just inside the near post.
- Matthew Viscuso locked up the win for Lynchburg as he curled a shot just inside the far post for the game-winning goal at 85:08.

- Lynchburg notched a 22-10 shot advantage, including a 9-5 margin in shots on goal.
- The Hornets also owned an 8-5 lead in corner kicks.
