ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – A trio of Seahawks scored in double figures as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team picked up another United East Conference win Saturday afternoon (Jan. 31). St. Mary's College (8-10, 4-4 UEC) posted a 67-54 victory over Keystone College (5-16, 3-7 UEC) as the Seahawks move to sixth place in the league standings.
Prior to the game, the Seahawks honored their three seniors – team captains
Jake Koverman (Severna Park, Md./Southern) and
JD Salo (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) and student assistant
Jahsiah Lamothe (Baltimore, Md./BPI) – for their years of dedication and leadership to the program.
How It Happened
- In the first half, Keystone used a 6-0 run as three different Giants scored to gain their only lead of the game, 8-7, at 14:26.
- First-year forward Evan Quintero (Fallston, Md./Gilman) returned the lead back to SMCM with the team's next possession, dropping in a layup at 14:12 for a 9-8 lead.
- The Giants hung around, trimming an eight-point deficit down to 19-15 at 7:30, before the hosts went on a 9-3 push to notch a 28-18 lead with 3:24 in the half. St. Mary's College headed into the locker room with a 31-23 halftime advantage.
- Keystone came out firing in the second half as Jden Golding fueled an 8-2 start with four points to pull within 33-31 at 16:25. Back-to-back triples by Quintero and Koverman returned a 10-point cushion to the Seahawks three minutes later.
- The Giants once again came within two (46-44) at 8:03 on a layup by Jeramiah Maxwell-Lawus. However, 10 straight points by sophomore James Crimaudo (Riva, Md./South River), including back-to-back three-pointers, knocked the wind out of Keystone and SMCM secured the double-digit margin of victory.
