ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team concluded the 2025-26 season Wednesday night (Feb. 18) in the first round of the 2026 United East Conference Men's Basketball Championship Tournament. No. 7 seed St. Mary's College (10-14) dropped an 80-71 decision to No. 10 seed Keystone College (8-18).
How It Happened
- The first half featured nine tied scores and five lead changes. The Seahawks claimed the game's opening lead on a bucket by first-year forward Tristan Thompson (Urbana, Md./Urbana) and went on to build a six-point advantage twice in the first half.
- SMCM led 18-12 at 10:16 following an 8-2 spurt capped by a basket from senior captain JD Salo (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) and then 36-30 with 1:46 remaining in the first half as first-year forward Evan Quintero (Fallston, Md./Gilman) connected on a pair of free throws to end a 9-3 run.
- Keystone used an 8-0 push at the end of the half, including a dunk by Ahmodrion Jones, to carry the momentum and a 38-36 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Giants converted 12 first-half turnovers by the hosts into 17 points while controlling the paint with a 28-18 margin.
- Back-to-back triples by first-year guard Khairi Hyde (Gaithersburg, Md./Wootton) returned the lead, 42-40, back to St. Mary's College early in the second half. The game was back-and-forth with Salo using an old-fashioned three-point play at 10:03 to knot the game at 56-all.
- Jones sparked a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to break the draw and hand Keystone a three-possession advantage. It was a lead that the Giants would not relinquish as the Seahawks would pull no closer than 70-64 with 4:15 remaining in the game.
