PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – Four Seahawks score in double digits as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team picked up another United East Conference victory Saturday afternoon (Feb. 7). St. Mary's College (9-12, 5-6 UEC) posted an 80-68 road win over the University of Valley Forge (7-15, 3-9 UEC) to return to the win column.
The win puts the Seahawks into a three-way tie with Penn State Berks (6-16, 5-6 UEC) and Wilson College (9-14, 5-6 UEC) for sixth place. SMCM holds the tiebreaker over Wilson as they picked up a 70-60 victory at Wilson on Jan. 13. St. Mary's College and Penn State Berks will face off on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 5 pm in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena for the Black History Month celebration game.
How It Happened
- Senior captain JD Salo (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) contributed to the Seahawks' first multiple possession lead of the game as Salo notched six in the team's 17-9 start.
- Valley Forge's only advantage of the contest came at 7:02 when a William Lawder dunk capped a 14-5 run by the Patriots for a 23-22 edge.
- The score would be tied two more times before SMCM used a 6-4 push to head into halftime with a 35-33 lead as first-year guard Khairi Hyde (Gaithersburg, Md./Wootton) scored five.
- UVF hung around in the second half as Valley Forge came within two at 14:29 (44-42) and within three twice with the last time happening at 7:22 (57-54) on a jumper by Dominik McKenney-George.
- St. Mary's College put the game away with a 13-3 run in less than three minutes, staking a 70-57 lead with 5:00 remaining in the game as first-year guard Korey Blair (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) completed the old-fashioned three-point play.
- The Seahawks never looked back as the visitors cruised to a 12-point victory.

- First-year forward Tristan Thompson (Urbana, Md./Urbana) was one-point shy of his first career double-double as Thompson grabbed a career-best 15 boards and tallied nine points.
- First-year forward Evan Quintero (Fallston, Md./Gilman) contributed a career-best 10 rebounds, eight points, and two blocks.

- Reece finished as the Patriots' scoring leader with 16 while Denzel Pierre added 10 as SMCM halted Valley Forge's three-game win streak.
