Seahawks Swept by Monarchs in Non-Conference Doubleheader

ABERDEEN, Md. – St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball dropped both ends of a nonconference doubleheader to King's College (Pennsylvania) Tuesday at the Ripken Experience, falling 8-6 in Game 1 before a 21-8 setback in the nightcap.

St. Mary's moves to 4-7 overall following the twin bill while the Monarchs improve to 3-3 on the season.

Game 1: King's (Pa.) 8, St. Mary's (Md.) 6

King's jumped out early in the opener, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning on four hits to take control. Jason Cunha drove in two runs with a single to center before RBI hits from Zach Jenkins, Jordan Andino, and Jaiden Wanamaker extended the early lead.

The Monarchs added another run in the second and pushed the advantage to 7-0 through four innings.

The Seahawks responded in the fifth inning, scoring three runs to cut into the deficit. Connor Wilkerson highlighted the rally with an RBI triple, while Eli Shafer and Rhett Fletcher each drove in a run.

St. Mary's added three more runs in the sixth to pull within two. Kody Adkins delivered an RBI single, Shafer added a sacrifice fly, and Wilkerson capped the inning with an RBI single to make it 8-6

Wilkerson led the Seahawks at the plate, going 3-4 with two RBIs and a triple, while Adkins added two hits and an RBI. Layne Lesko, Kyle Catanzaro, and Aaron Wathen each recorded a hit.

Nick Russo took the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) over four innings. Noah Gross worked two innings of relief.

Game 2: King's (Pa.) 21, St. Mary's (Md.) 8

St. Mary's struck first in the nightcap, plating two runs in the opening inning on RBI groundouts by Kaden Hnath and Rhett Fletcher.

King's answered immediately with a seven run first inning, taking advantage of several Seahawk miscues to swing the momentum. The Monarchs added single runs in the second and third before extending the lead with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth.

The Seahawks battled back with four runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Connor Wilkerson and a sacrifice fly from Fletcher that cut the deficit to 12-8

However, King's erupted for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory.

Wilkerson paced the Seahawks offensively with three RBIs, while Eli Shafer scored twice and drove in a run. Layne Lesko, Will Wilson, and Caleb Bean also contributed hits.

Cam Gill was charged with the loss after allowing eight runs (one earned) over two innings in the start.
